Pull for Larkin Drive

The Baton Rouge Women’s Tennis Association (BRWTA) supports a number of local charitable organizations and events that benefit the greater Baton Rouge community at large. Each year, BRWTA supports the Baton Rouge Pro Tennis Classic, a men’s Pro Circuit Challenger tournament that draws players from all over the world to Baton Rouge to compete for prize money and ranking points. Members contribute to this tournament both financially and by providing housing, transportation, and staffing during the tournament. Proceeds from this tournament benefit Cancer Services of Baton Rouge.

Additionally , BRWTA was a sponsor of the inaugural 2010 YMCA Heart Fund Tournament which raised funds for the YMCA Community Outreach program and The Heart Fund. Finally, BRWTA has been an annual sponsor of the Cajun Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament which attracts internationally ranked wheelchair tennis players to this world class event each spring.

On another front, BRWTA supports the efforts of HOPE, Helping Others Practice Empowerment, as well as that of various junior tennis programs throughout Baton Rouge by donating tennis balls to their organizations.

As needed, BRWTA has also initiated fundraising efforts that indirectly or directly benefit local families struggling through medical crises. This year, BRWTA is collecting aluminum pull tabs for St. Jude to help defray costs associated with its Ronald McDonald House. The “Pull for Larkin” drive is named in honor of Larkin Dorris, a 2nd grader at Episcopal, who was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and is currently undergoing treatment at St. Jude.
